Question by Rattlesnake: Chess: Defense and openings?
Hello chess players
Why do we classify the “openings” in “Openings” and “Defenses”? Is there any difference between them?
Answer by DivideByZero
If I understand correctly, a “Defense” is a variation played by Black. It’s a defense because Black must respond to White’s initiative, White’s advantage in tempo.
