Both games in the first round of the Zurich Chess Challenge ended in draws. Caruana-Anand was a positional Najdorf in which the Italian had a slight edge until close to the time control. After some inaccurate play Anand took over the initiative and won a pawn, but it was still a drawn position. Kramnik-Gelfand was about equal from start to finish.
