Given the big lead she obtained in the first half of the match, it came as no surprise when Hou Yifan ultimately defeated Anna Ushenina to take back the Women’s World Chess Championship. In the end, back-to-back victories in Games 6 and 7 were enough to put away Ushenina, giving Yifan a commanding 5.5-1.5 victory with three games to spare. Hou came into the match as a strong favorite and never seemed particularly challenged by Ushenina, making the later stages of the match somewhat anticlimactic.
